Jim Long
Chief Financial Officer
James D. “Jim” Long is the Chief Financial Officer for Skillable. He joined the company in September 2022 as Interim CFO, shortly after Chris McCarthy was named CEO.
Jim has deep and broad experience as both Interim and full-time CFO for private equity backed, growth stage technology and service companies. Throughout his career, he has built great teams and honed processes, reporting and accountability to optimize strategic results and deliver on the investment theses of PE backers, often under challenging periods of growth or transition.
As examples, Jim was Interim CFO at a major telehealth company, MDLIVE, when the pandemic hit. There, he transformed a toxic finance organization into one that supported the massive 150% growth – in a few months – from unexpected consumer demand. He also served as CFO for an innovative ed-tech startup focused on stemming dropout rates for Latino youth, setting the stage for lifelong success. Jim was CFO for Camelot Schools, which ran alternative education programs for at-risk urban students, then successfully sold the company in two simultaneous transactions during a troubled market; and was Interim CFO and strategic advisor to a leading-edge SaaS AI software company, AI Insight, that was sold to Reed Elsevier.
Jim’s family settled in Texas in the 1730s, he grew up in South Louisiana and has lived and worked all over the US (often on the East Coast), but has been a proud Austin resident for years. He loves the Longhorns, friends, fun, golf, music, travel, oceans and dancing. Jim, and native Californian wife Dee, also live part-time in Washington DC, where they hang out with 17 relations who have mysteriously ended up there.
